A Man’s Guide to Pinterest

About a month ago, while I was trying to sell a few pieces of furniture before moving from Dallas back to the Midwest, I had exhausted all the normal channels – Craigslist, Facebook, Twitter, etc., to no avail.

Then a light went off – and that light was Pinterest.

I posted a few pictures of my furniture and included the price and made sure that I specifically noted “DFW area inquiries only!” I wasn’t about to lug a sofa to Austin.

After a few hours, my Gmail account started to catch fire and I was able to sell all of my furniture locally and at the price I wanted, thanks to Pinterest.

Ironically, while at my interview a few weeks back, I was asked “what is the next big thing on social media?” I responded “Pinterest.” The people I interviewed with had no idea what I was talking about, but I explained how it would be huge for brands to capitalize on this site. When a user “likes” or “Re-Pins” a post, there’s a potential customer to target.

I signed up for Pinterest back in August of 2011 and was immediately captivated and inspired by content that spoke to me and that I could personalize.

I’d love to build a log cabin one day – there are literally hundreds of boards dedicated to cabins, cabin design and furnishings.

As a man, knowing some DIY tips, cleaning tricks and general life hacks will definitely endear you to the woman in your life. Pinterest isn’t just for the ladies – it’s for a smart man who might be able to raise a few eyebrows when he busts out homemade Lemon Pledge or can turn a mason jar into a light fixture. Or do just about anything to a pallet.

Gentlemen, everything you’ve ever wanted to know about women you can find on Pinterest. Quit wasting time and sign up.

  1. Hah! Too funny. We must admit we love Pinterest too, but we’re an office full of women!

    • You guys should diversify! Always great to get a man’s perspective! Thanks for reading!

      • Hah! We’ve tried, we’ve tried. We do have one token man in the office. He does web design and just laughs at us all the time.

      • Well if you’d ever want another one, please let me know! I have two younger sisters, so I have a great deal of patience and understanding with women!

  2. I’m doing a presentation on Pinterest tonight and a friend showed me your blog post. I love it. I think I might throw in your line “everything you’ve ever wanted to know, you can find on Pinterest”. Will be sure to give you the credit and linkback. :)

    • Absolutely, Sarah! The more, the merrier. Best of luck with your presentation and hope to see more folks reading my blog – thanks to you! Make sure to say “everything you’ve ever wanted to know about women, you can find on Pinterest!” That’s the grabber!

      Cheers,
      Bobby

The most insightful piece I’ve read regarding the website, before it was just a source ridicule while women seemingly made mindless “pins” to the site. Once reading this blog I have full understanding for usefulness of pinterest, the practical applications but moreover it being a virtual cheat-sheet for men.

Men: if you can swallow your pride, stow your ego, and get passed possibly scrutiny of being a dude on Pinterest; I highly recommend joining the site. Give your self a leg-up and separate yourself from the field, and impress her with your uncanny knowledge reduction sauce, mediterranean recipes, and soft lighting.

Every renaissance man must read this blog then subsequently join Pinterest, Rachel Ray your days are numbered….#Pinterest.
